WILMINGTON, NC--- Sophomore PG TaKwana Bland and the (19-4, (14-2)) Sea Devil Women's Basketball program will return to action and hit the hardwood on Friday evening as they host Region 10, Division I opponent, Denmark Tech College (8-8, (3-2)).
Bland currently leads Region 10 Conference with total point scored this season with 379 points scored [Among Region 10 Division II women's basketball programs], while averaging 16.5 points per contest, which leads all Sea Devil scorers.
"Continuing to compete and staying consistent is key for our ladies at this point in the season," said Sea Devil Women's Basketball head coach Lori Drake in her opening comments.
With a win tonight, Sea Devil Women's Basketball Head Coach Lori Drake can pick up her 73rd overall career win with the program; and her 44th career Region 10 Conference win. Drake has an all-time record of (72-32, Overall, and (43-22 in Region 10 Conference)).
Also leading the way for the Sea Devils women's basketball program, is sophomore G/F Destiny Campbell, the team's second leading scorer at 16.2ppg, who has scored double-digit points in 19 out of the team's 23 games played this season. Campbell's season high performance came earlier this season in the team's (82-73) home victory over Wake Tech CC; Destiny recorded 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 blocks in 39 minutes played on 60.9% from the field.
Sophomore Nikia Wallace also leads the way with 8.7ppg, 4.4 assists per game, and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 33.3% from the field (19.4 3PT%).
Fellow freshmen Taylor Foulks (9.2ppg), Jaleesa Dillard (8.3ppg), and Christina Caesar (7.5ppg) have also contributed solid production as starters and as role players off the bench for the team this season.
As for their opponent, the Lady Panthers Jordan Dawson leads the team with 16.0 points per contest in her 25.9 minutes/game, Jabree Jones is the team's second leading scorer with 15.8ppg adding a team high 8.1 rebounds per game, and Zaira Snipes is the team's third leading scorer with 13.3ppg connecting on 50% on her three pointers, and leads the team with 10.1 assists/game as well.
Role players to watch on the Lady Panthers are Tamiya Singleton (8.0ppg/0.5rpg/2.0spg), Shakira Carter (6.2ppg/4.8rpg/53.1 FG%), as well as Drikierria Wright (6.2ppg/7.2rpg/64.3 FT%), and Sabrina Bouis (5.9ppg/2.3rpg/53.8 3PT%).
The Lady Panthers are led at the helm by Javon Gilliard, the 2012 Coach of the Year, and the only coach in program history to record over 100 wins in Lady Panthers women's basketball program history.
"They are a NJCAA Division I, Region 10 Conference team, we better bring it to win!" added Drake as she closed out her pre-game presser.
The Sea Devil Women's Basketball program currently sits at 1st Place in the conference with a (14-2, (19-4) Overall Record) with four regular-season games remaining in the 2016-2017 season.
The Sea Devil Women's Basketball program is coming off a (83-78) road victory over Louisburg College last Saturday; Destiny Campbell led the team with 22 points, TaKwana Bland added 21 points, Taylor Foulks added 13 points, and Jaleesa Dillard added 12 off the bench.
