Lady Sea Devils 2016-17 Season Preview

Lady Sea Devils 2016-17 Season Preview

WILMINGTON, NC--- The Sea Devil Women's Basketball program finished (27-3) last season, a mark that earned the team a regular season and NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament titles, and a berth and finish of 6th Place in the 2016 NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

"We are eager to get on the court," commented Coach Drake. The girls are working hard every day and ready to play games."

While the Sea Devils lost eight players after last year ended, the Sea Devils do have several returners who are capable of leading the team on and off the court. Nikia Wallace, Desaree Green, Destiny Campbell, and TaKwana Bland, will led the team on Drake's 2016-2017 roster. Returning sophomores Teshanna Phillips, and De'najah Porter will also led the team during practices as redshirts this season. Porter is recovering from a knee injury during the 2016 NJCAA National Tournament and Phillips was redshirted due to personal reasons.

The program also welcomes five newcomers to the roster, who will suit up in their first season as freshmen during the 2016-2017 women's basketball season.

Christina Caesar, Jaleesa Dillard, Ari Young, Taylor Foulks, and Shanekia Jackson will all suit up for the Sea Devil Devil Women's Basketball team in their inaugural season with the program.

Caesar, 5-9 the freshman shooting guard from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, comes to Cape Fear after she played her prep career at Winston-Salem Prep Academy for head coach Eugene Love; averaged 10.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.0 stlpg, and 4.0 assists per game.

Dillard, the 6-0 guard/forward combo from Raleigh, North Carolina, choose to play for the Sea Devil Women's Basketball program because it is a great school and the women's basketball program and coaching staff are amazing.

Young, the 6-2 forward from Fredericksburg, Virginia, comes to Cape Fear after she played her prep career at Chancellor High School where she averaged 8.5 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 3.7 bpg, 1.9 stlpg and 1.4 apg while shooting 33-percent from the field and 72-percent from the free throw line.

Young chose to play for Cape Fear Community College because of the atmosphere and the area: it's close to my family, and has a personal connection with Coach Drake.

Foulks, the 6-1 forward/center from Lexington, South Carolina, comes to the Sea Devil Women's Basketball program after playing for head coach Melissa Dowdy at Lexington High School for four seasons. Foulks, chose the Sea Devils because of how competitive the conference and region is, and how competitive Coach Drake and the coaching staff is.

Jackson, the 5-10 guard from Sumter, South Carolina, comes to Cape Fear after she played her prep career at Lakewood High School under head coach Frances Fields. Jackson, as a senior averaged 10.0ppg, 10.0rpg, 5.0stlpg, and 3.0apg.
