Cape Fear Women's Basketball Advances to Championship

Hickory, NC - Cape Fear women's basketball advanced to the championship game of the NJCAA Region 10 tournament, defeating Catawba Valley Community College, 85-75.

The Sea Devils trailed 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, but exploded for 30 points in the second to take a 12 point halftime lead. Catawba bounced back in the third, however, and trailed by just two entering the fourth, but the Sea Devils outscored the Red Hawks 29-21 in the fourth to seal the vicotry.

A day after scoring just five points, star forward Destiny Campbell led all scorers with 32. TaKwana Bland also played well, finishing with 24 points, while Nikia Wallace finished with 13. Christina Caesar also finished in double figures with 11, knocking down three 3-pointers in the second quarter.

"I'm proud of our fight today," said head coach Lori Drake. "We knew it was going to be a battle for 40 minutes, and they brought it today."

With the win, the Sea Devils move on to the championship game, where they will take on Guilford Tech at 2:00 p.m.
