Hickory, NC - Cape Fear women's basketball closed out 2016 with another win, defeating Catawba Valley Community College 77-68.

TaKwana Bland led the Sea Devils with 21 points, Nikia Wallace finished with 17, and Desaree Green scored 11.

The Sea Devils led 17-15 at the end of the first quarter, but Catawba Valley went up by as much as 15 in the second. Cape Fear would close part of the gap before halftime, however, and trail just 41-35. The Sea Devils then picked it up defensively in the third, holding Catawba to just eight points while scoring 20 to take a six point lead heading into the fourth. While the fourth quarter was close, Cape Fear managed to hang on for the win.

Afterwards, head coach Lori Drake spoke highly of her team's performance and comeback.

"We are excited about closing out 2016 with another road win. Our ladies jumped ahead early and then fell behind by 15 in the [first half]. Our fight back was impressive and our will to win in the second half allowed us to seal the deal."

This marks Cape Fear's 10th win in a row, and improves their overall record to 11-2, and their conference record to 6-0.

Following the holiday break, the Sea Devils will return to the court on January 5th, where they will take on Fayetteville Technical Community College at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
