WILMINGTON, NC--- Cape Fear Women's Basketball program will open their 2016-2017 season tonight in their first game of the season versus Combine Academy at the Schwartz Center.

"We are ready to get the new season underway and I am excited to see our ladies put on a Sea Devil uniform. We have prepared very well throughout our preseason practices and scrimmages, which has helped us build our confidence going into game one of the season," said Sea Devil Women's Basketball head coach Lori Drake in Wednesday's pre-game presser leading up to tonight's game versus Combine Academy.

The Sea Devils will have another strong season after finishing last year at 27-3.  That record earned the program a regular season and a NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament Championship and a berth and finish of 6th place in the 2016 NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

Sophomore returners for the Sea Devil Women's Basketball this season are Nikia Wallace, TaKwana Bland, Desaree Green, and Destiny Campbell each brings valuable experiences from last year's season to this year's 2016-2017 squad.

Cape Fear also welcomes five freshmen newcomers to the 2016-2017 roster; Christina Caesar, Jaleesa Dillard, Ari Young, Taylor Foulks, and Shanekia Jackson who will each look individually to make an immediate impact with the Sea Devils this season.

Tonight's meeting between Combine Academy and Cape Fear Community College is the first time in school history that these two programs have met on the hardwood.

Tip-off for tonight's Sea Devil Women's Basketball season opener versus Combine Academy is scheduled for 6:00pm (EST) from the Schwartz Center.

Following tonight's result versus Combine Academy, the Sea Devils will hit the road for a five-game road trip against South Georgia Technical College, Hanceville, Fayetteville Tech Community College, Bryant & Stratton (VA) College, and Wake Tech Community College.

NEXT HOME GAME
Cape Fear's next home game will come against Guilford Tech Community College on Saturday, December 3, at 1:00pm (EST) inside the Schwartz Center. It will be "Girl Scouts" day for the Sea Devils.
