Cape Fear Women's Basketball Earns Runner Up Honors

Hickory, NC - Cape Fear women's basketball came up short in the Region 10 championship game, losing 68-66 to Guilford Technical Community College. TaKwana Bland led the team in scoring with 25 points.

The game was tied at 66-66 with 0.4 seconds remaining, but a late whistle sent Guilford to the line, where they knocked down both free throws. The Sea Devils were able to advance the ball and get a shot attempt off, but it wouldn't fall.

Despite the loss, head coach Lori Drake had nothing but positive things to say about her team's performance.

"This one stings, but we have a lot to be proud of. We left it all on the floor today, and that's how Championship games should be."

The lady Sea Devils achieved a lot this season, finishing 1st in regular season, with an overall record of 26-5, and a 16-2 record in conference. This came despite dealing with injuries and a shortened roster.

"I couldn't be more proud of our team this season," said coach Drake. "We battled through a lot of adversity and overcame the odds."
