WILMINGTON, NC – The Sea Devil Women's Soccer program looks for their fifth straight victory on Wednesday night versus Region 10 opponent, Louisburg College. Both teams enter the mid-week contest with a (4-0) record, after having strong starts to their respective seasons.
Cape Fear Community College is coming off a (11-0) home victory over USC Salkehatchie on Saturday afternoon. The Sea Devils got goal contributions from seven different players against the Indians. Cape Fear got on the scoreboard in the game's first minute when sophomore midfielder Allyson McLamb scored. The Sea Devils later get goal contributions in the first half from Emily Valenti (19:39, assisted by Sierra Raynor), Sierra Raynor (19:59, assisted by Briley Eason), Alyssa Coustenis (25th minute, unassisted), and Janessa Annis (41st minute, assisted by Raime Cooper). Cape Fear would take a (6-0) lead headed into halftime versus USC Salkehatchie on Saturday, holding the Indians to only two total shots, only one on goal in the game's first 45 minutes played.
In the second half, the Sea Devils would extend their lead more by scoring an additional five goals in the second half, with a majority of the goals coming from freshmen players. Second half goal contributions came from: Alyssa Coustenis (48th minute, assisted by Sierra Raynor), Sierra Raynor (59th minute, assisted by Jenna Pecorini, 62nd Minute), Janessa Annis (73rd minute), and Noemi Mata (88th minute, her first career goal at Cape Fear CC).
Sea Devil Women's Soccer goalkeepers Kenedy Green and Elizabeth Ethridge each earned a clean sheet in their minutes played in net versus USC Salkehatchie on Saturday.
The victory against the Indians was their fourth straight win of the 2016-2016 season, and improved their overall record to (4-0) on the season.
Louisburg College comes off a (2-0) home victory over Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes got goal contributions from Karla Hernandez in the 21st minute and Hannah Rayman in the 35th minute. Spartanburg Methodist recorded 15 shots on goal on Hurricane goalkeeper Karina Aguila, but couldn't get one passed Aguila in the net.
The Hurricanes were able to record five shots on goal on Pioneer goalkeeper Chasity Freeman and were able to record two first half goals.
Tomorrow's matchup between the two women's soccer programs is the 28th all-time in school history; Sea Devil Women's Soccer leads the all-time series at (20-6-1).
"Louisburg is a quality opponent with talented players and a seasoned coach," said Sea Devil Women's Soccer head coach Ryan Deppa in his pre-game presser comments on Louisburg College.
