RALEIGH, NC--- The Sea Devil Women's Soccer program will play for the 2016 NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon versus Spartanburg Methodist College; the winner will be the 2016 NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament Champions.
The Sea Devil Women's Soccer team is coming off a (5-1) win over Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday afternoon in the first semifinals match-up; the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist College are coming off a victory over Louisburg College in the second semifinals match-up.
"We are excited for the opportunity to represent Cape Fear Community College in the NJCAA Region 10 Tournament. Our program has grown so much this past year, and it's all due to the commitment from our players. I am very proud of them for together earning this next step in our journey," said Sea Devil Women's Soccer head coach Ryan Deppa in his pre-game presser prior to today's match versus Spartanburg Methodist College.
Cape Fear Community College defeated Spartanburg Methodist earlier this season on Monday, October 3, on the road by the score of (3-0). The Sea Devils would get an early goal contribution from Jenna Pecorini in the game's 4th Minute (assisted by Alyssa Coustenis), and would later get goal contributions from freshman Alaina Capps (22nd minute, assisted by Janessa Annis), and freshman Sierra Raynor (70th minute, assisted by Raime Cooper). Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Ethridge provided the shutout in net, recording 12 saves in her 90:00 minutes played.
The Sea Devils would later defeat Spartanburg Methodist at home in the regular season conference clinching title game on Tuesday, October 18, by the score of (4-1). After trailing (0-1) at halftime, Cape Fear would score four unanswered goals in the game's last 45 minutes; getting goal contributions from Alaina Capps, Jenna Pecorini, Alyssa Coustenis, and Anna Massengill.
The Sea Devil Women's Soccer team enters Sunday's 2016 NCJAA Region 10 Conference Championship game with a (15-1) overall record, and a (11-1) in conference play record, as well as the winners of five straight matches.
Head Coach Ryan Deppa added in his pre-game presser that, "the entire team put in a good week to help prepare us for the weekend."
Kick-off for Sunday's afternoon NJCAA Region 10 Conference Tournament Championship is scheduled for 12:00pm (EST) at WRAL Sports Complex Park.
