Cape Fear Women's Soccer Advances to Championship

Raleigh, NC - Cape Fear women's soccer won its opening round game of the NJCAA Region 10 conference tournament game Saturday, defeating Patrick Henry Community College 5-1. Freshman Alaina Capps finished with a hat trick, while sophomores Alyssa Coustenis and Jenna Pecorini scored as well. Sierra Raynor, Janessa Annis, and Allyson McLamb each had assists.

The Sea Devils took the lead 14 minutes into the first half, as Capps scored off a cross by Raynor. It would their only goal of the half

"[Patrick Henry] presented a real challenge to us with how they defend, and they have kids who work hard," said head coach Ryan Deppa.

Capps would score her second ten minutes into the second half. Then, Coustenis would score in the 60th minute, finishing a very composed goal off another assist from Raynor. In the 70th minute, Capps would complete her hat trick.

"Alaina is coming along nicely," said Deppa. "It was awesome for her to get her first collegiate hat trick today. The team was so excited for her. She is becoming a dangerous forward in Region 10."

The Sea Devils final goal would come in 75th minute. Pecorini made a great individual effort after taking a pass from Capps, beating the back to the end line before putting it past Patrick Henry's goal keeper.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Ethridge made four saves in 72 minutes before Kenedy Green would replace her. Green would make one save to close the game.

Deppa was very pleased with his team's effort. "I was happy with our teams performance and the girls are excited to be playing in the NJCAA Region 10 Championship."

The win improves Cape Fear to 15-1 overall, and 12-1 in conference.

They will play tomorrow in the NJCAA Region 10 conference tournament championship game. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m., and will take place at WRAL Soccer Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.
